Child Luring

Case: SU-10-09417

SUMMIT — Police have supplied a composite sketch of a suspect in a child-luring incident that took place in Summit just before 6 p.m. Monday, May 14.

According to police, the victim, a 12-year-old boy, was with his friends, walking his dog on Linden Place, in a residential neighborhood, when he noticed a gold-colored SUV, possibly a Toyota, traveling slowly towards them. The driver stopped the SUV and asked, “could you help me, my mother is very sick and I need help finding her house, could you get in the car and help me?” The victim said “no” and quickly ran in the opposite direction and the SUV drove off.

Police said the child described the driver as a white male between 33- and 40-years old, with medium build, brown hair, a brown goatee-style beard with grey on the sides, who was wearing dark sunglasses and a white, short-sleeved, T-shirt. He said the man appeared to have a black or blue tattoo on his upper right arm that was barely visible, just below his right shirt sleeve.

The man was driving a four-door gold or tan SUV, possibly a Toyota, possibly with a New York State license plate, dark tinted windows, dark upholstery and a center console gear shifter. There was an item, possibly a pair of Rosary, beads with a crucifix, hanging from the rearview mirror. The engine made a “rattling” noise, the child told police.

Any member of the public having information concerning this incident or the suspect should contact Sgt. Thomas Rich, 908-273-5871.
